Promo for "Inside the Edit" video training course, 2014.
I was contacted by Paddy Bird to conceive a motion piece to promote his new online training course for video editors. Having long ago been an editor myself I was keen to celebrate the often misunderstood and overlooked craft. Once we had a solid script, I knew that with the help of James Locke-Hart's sound design we could use visuals to help convey the message of the piece without simply repeating it.
• After Effects, Cinema 4D
We were blown away by the reception to The Editor. After just two weeks on the Inside The Edit website, the video had received over two hundred thousand views. It seemed to strike a chord - particularly with those who are intimate with the craft. It was extremely satisfying to feel that we had shone a light on the amazing work that video editors do. I'm really grateful to those who took it upon themselves to translate The Editor into other languages.
Creative Babble were kind enough to invite James (sound designer) and me to chat about the project.
"The Editor" won best online Sound Design at the Music & Sound Awards 2015.
I also worked on a kit of parts for the tutorials themselves at 'Inside The Edit' as well as a set of logo animations, and stings with which the online video content could be introduced and punctuated. Again James Locke-Hart provided some first rate sound design. Some examples can be seen above.
